Kimberley Cameron of Kimberley Cameron & Associates Literary Agency has launched “Reputation Books,” a new “digital first” publishing company, in service of its clients’ backlist books. “We’ll be publishing backlist works from our quality authors. ‘Books We Stand Behind’ is our canon. Our focus will remain on our clients’ backlist books for now,” Cameron says. Reputation Books will also offer print-ondemand (POD) services for its authors.
The Reputation Books Spring 2014 catalogue launches with notable authors such as James Gunn, 90, founding director of the Center for The Study of Science Fiction. Reputation Books will release Gunn’s book Gift From the Stars, originally published by BenBella in 2005. When asked if he foresaw digital publishing, the “Grand Master of Science Fiction,” Gunn said, “I never imagined books would be available electronically, which may be a failure of the imagination, or such an overwhelming love for books in their traditional look, smell, and feel that I never dreamed anything would ever be considered a substitute.”
Though he may not have foreseen digital publishing, Gunn says he’s been ahead of the curve in adopting all new technology as it comes, and didn’t hesitate to sign on with Reputation Books, perhaps a testament to both his and Kimberley Cameron’s past.
Kimberley Cameron went from acting to books as a natural progression of her interests and talents, cofounding Knightsbridge Publishing and later partnering with literary legend Dorris Halsey of Reece Halsey Literary Agency. Cameron was mentored by Halsey, who represented Gunn and other future-forecasters and greats, such as Aldous Huxley, Upton Sinclair, Henry Miller, among others. “Dorris was very progressive and open to new ideas and people, and the future has always captivated my attention,” Cameron says. “As the publishing industry shifts and changes, it’s fitting that I’m taking this new step with Reputation Books.”
Other authors and titles in the Spring 2014 Reputation Books lineup include: D.P. Lyle’s Murder & Mayhem: A Doctor Answers Medical and Forensic Questions for Mystery Writers; Leigh Anne Jasheway’s Date Me, Date My Dog: Finding Mr. Right for You and Your Pack; Erin Byrne’s Vignette’s & Postcards From Paris; Garrett Calcaterra, Craig Comer and Ahimsa Kerp’s The Roads to Baldairn Motte; Charles Laird Calia’s The Stargazing Year; Dr. Suzana Flores’s Facehooked: How Facebook is Changing Our Emotions, Relationships and Lives; Tim Hemlin’s The Wastelanders; Dalia Roddy’s A Catch in Time; Dr. Arthur Janov’s Sex and the Subconscious; and J.K.
